Knowing Our Spirits
Iyiniw Education and Training Institute is a First Nation’s owned organization in Alberta, committed to education and preservation of the cultural values of First Nations people. Every year, Iyiniw hosts the Knowing our Spirits Conference – a gathering that attracts approximately 1000 people every year to learn about healing through the reclamation of traditional teachings and values, as well as from experts from across Turtle Island. I try to attend the banquet each year, because it’s a lot of fun, and the keynote speaker is always inspirational. Its also a great opportunity to connect with friends and leaders from our community. This year I was honored by a presentation by the Treaty Chiefs present on behalf of Iyiniw Training Institute for my appointment to the Senate. I was humbled to be recognized and grateful for the kind words that were spoken.
